To see how fast Mac Pro Clovertown is, check this Quicktime movie of Cinema 4D 10.1 rendering a slightly complex scene (scene is a demo included in Cinema 4D package);
cinemarendering.mov (2 MB)
In menu extras on the top-right of screen, you’ll see 8 different percentages and you can see that Cinema 4D took full advantage of all 8 cores.
I’m really loving the speed improvement but Photoshop CS3 doesn’t seem to be truly taking advantage of all cores so the speed improvement isn’t as dramatic as Cinema 4D rendering but it’s still pretty acceptable to me. I just need to upgrade from 2 GB of RAM to 3 or 4 GB to make Photoshop really happy.
“With great power comes great RAM requirement.”
With a setup with that many cores, it seems like it will only get faster and faster as apps come to support its full potential.
That’s beautiful. You have all the next gen consoles, too. Very lucky guy.
Awesome setup man. You need to get one of Logitech’s Harmony Remotes though, you’ve got like six remotes on that table that can be replaced with just one.
I agree with Sean.

Setup looks very slick Adam. What are your workflow plans for the 2 screens? Main work on one, and palettes on the other?
What is your drive system inside the Mac Pro? Do you have a separate boot drive, and one for media? Of are you storing everything on one large disk.
Nice replacement icons in your video. Will you relese them?
I like the NewsFire icon ;)
Have enough gaming consoles? =P Nice! Just goes to show how the apps need to catch up with the technology…for once. =o Neat little screen cast? I’m also curious as to what you’re workflow plans are for the 2 screens.
Very, very nice. Also impressed with your next gen consoles.
I’m thinking of getting multi-purpose remote control but I couldn’t find one that supports Bluetooth too (PS3 uses bluetooth.) If there is one out there that is simple & beautiful, I’ll get it. I don’t want millions buttons in one remote control, my hand isn’t big enough :)
My workflow for two displays are fairly simple;
First Display (left)
Multimedia apps such as CS3 (less used but important palettes to second display top-left), CSSEdit (Preview window in second display), Iconographer, Preview, Textmate, iTunes, etc.
Second Display (right)
All communication apps (iChat, Mail, Newsfire, Transmit, etc.)
Safari are mostly used in main display but sometime in second display depending on what I’m working on first display (if Cinema 4D, which takes up full screen space, then Safari windows goes to second display.)
I get headache very easily if I don’t have two displays. It’s like putting every furniture, bed, electronics, etc. all in one large room when it’s easier to organize them in two slightly smaller rooms.
Slick setup, man. But why two 23″ cinema displays instead of a 30″?
That’s really cool.
And, uh, is that an MX Revolution?
If so, then lucky you that’s the ultimate setup :)
Now it’s time to play Super Paper Mario!
Mike: He already stated why he likes 2 screens over the larger 30″.
“I get headache very easily if I don’t have two displays. It’s like putting every furniture, bed, electronics, etc. all in one large room when it’s easier to organize them in two slightly smaller rooms.”
Alej: No, it’s not the MX Revolution, it’s a Belkin mouse.
You’re a lucky man, Adam.
Nice set up. 8 Cores… feel the burn.
I’d second the call for some of those icons.. especially that NewsFire one. Do you usually make custom icons for apps you use?
1) Since when did Glenn run this blog? =P
2) Why isn’t my gravatar updated? =(
3) Is there any chance that you could share this NF icon
{ http://urltea.com/4lw }
Please? =)
I like the custom NewsFire icon… :-)
Nice setup. I wish I had that much money…
Alej, haha. I thought I’d answer those two questions as I could already tell by looking at the picture – hope you didn’t mind ;-)
Aside from that NewsFire icon that has been mentioned already, what are those CS3 icons?
What do you think of the mirra chair? A worthy successor to the Aeron?
I realllly want that newsfire icon!
Very nice setup.. And very nice CS3 icons., will you release them.
I’ll second Alex Suraci’s question, Adam – what are those CS3 icons? They’re lovely, and a vast improvement on the standard flat-colour versions.
I agree with Alex Suraci, Elliot, et al, those CS3 icons are the best! Would really appreciate it if you would release those to your adoring fans who love your work so very, very much!
And if you want to donate to my “I need an OctoMac” fund, I will gladly welcome your support. ;-) Enjoy that setup, man, it’s very, VERY nice. I hope you have several deadbolts on every door and bulletproof glass cause you don’t want anyone to run off with that. Hell, if you got ripped off then *I* would cry my eyes out!
Can i please have some seeds from that money-tree you have?
8-core Mac Pro, 2 Cinema Display’s, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii.
:D
CS3 icon is damn cool! can i have it?!
Very nice setup. And the Million Dollar Question: Are you going to release those very cool CS3 Icons you have in your dock.
I. Hate. You. Okay, you’ve got an X Box 360, PS3, Wii, Apple TV, Sony flat panel TV, 8 Core MacPro, 2 Cinema displays, and I’m sure there’s some AirPort Extreme action going on, along with an iPhone in your future. Dang.
Holy crap dude! That’s my trash can!
Nice room, I’m jealous.
6 remotes, pfweew..! I just have the Apple remote. A bit to much tech-stuff for my taste, but fine stuff I have to admit. I like to reduce it to the minimum (as can be seen here: http://blog.tice.de/beitrag.php?fi... ).
… and yes, the cursor is a picture: http://blog.tice.de/beitrag.php?fi...
You’re making us suffer, knowing that there are better icons that could be on our desktops :’(
I couldn’t be more jealous. Your a very lucky man.
£500 chair? Whats your hourly rate? :)
He spends a lot of time seated you know…
Are those CS3 replacement icons related to this?
http://quarkvsindesign.com/sc/cont...
tom, nah I don’t plan on submitting them anywhere else. They are for my personal use but I will release them here around the date of CS3 release date. My goal is to do every CS3 app and their document icons but it will be a massive work as there’s tons of document icons.

Sweet sweet setup!
I have the Quad core and 23″ LCDs myself, and it’s gorgeous!
How much RAM do you have in your setup, Adam? Have you been able to use more than 3GB of RAM? (I have 5)
And where did you get table?
p.s. that chair rocks. I have the Aeron, and I’m thinking of getting a Mirra :D
Sweet setup, good choice on the My Book Pro. I learnt the hard way by buying a Lacie. So much data lost.
It’ll be good to know how CS3 is the Mac Pro.
wow…pretty! you must be technosexual! j/k
Nice setup, almost the same as my apartments. I was wondering about your desk though, it’s almost exactly what I have been looking for. Where did you pick it up at?
Be careful with that Wiimote charger. People say it absolutely destroys the remote with eventual contact and plastic melting. I’m just investing in a bunch of NiHM batteries and charger instead.
Daniel.
Nice setup, comfy & functional, that TV looks like it is Photoshopped :) KIDDING!
Now we know what you spent your mac heist money on… but what a nice setup.
cheers
Make people adore! where is your computer desk bought please?
Haha jdobson, it’s not as large as one would believe :)
I bought my computer desk from Staples store. I’m unable to find them in Staples’ website though.
Hey, I have the exact same pencil sharpener!
Hello, thanks your reply, I’ll try to search in Staples website, thanks a lot.
Very nice setup :)
Any chance of getting your xbox live gamertag? (If you have one)
P.S: You may know me as kickfliperjo on MacHeist.
I’ve been looking for a computer desk for awhile and stumbled across your website. (Great site btw! Youre skills are very commendable and admirable.)
After coveting your desk and rummaging through the net for it, I came across this one at staples that resembles it pretty closely: Situations Mobiletech Personal Computer Station (Item 430593)
Looks almost exact with the exception of the upper left and right platforms attached.
Just thought I’d comment as it looks to be a great desk and many here seem to ask about it aswell.
Went to my local Staples and saw it in person and have to say that regretably the material is flimsy and nothing like what’s in the picture. Not recommended.
I did find this site that seems exactly like it though:

Last post… I promise :)
Hey Adam,
How does your griffin PowerMate work with your CS applications?
wow, cool.
love the dual screen and all the consoles…
well organized…
out of all of them your bin is the best.
This is way nice, I hope one day I’ll have a room like that, I think I’m on my way, I got 500GB My Book. Congratulations on your setup.
adam looking for a interface update to my product safetyOfficerII
if you could look at msds.safetyofficer.com
you’ll see the existing interface not bad for 10 years ago, but getting pretty stale today.
If you could contact me I would greatly appreciate it. Get some pricing from you.
